sun in taurus
On 20th April the Sun entered into Taurus, heralding in the Autumn months. The air now has a rich, earthy smell to it as the hours of daylight wane here in the southern hemisphere. Autumn is my favourite time of the year with colours that can overwhelm and take my breath away.
The Wheel of the Year has turned away from the heat and intensity of Summer to a more quiet and gentler season. This seasonal transition is the perfect analogy for what’s been happening Astrologically this past month or so. With the influence of Aries upon the Sun, and Mercury & Venus moving back and forth through this sign, there has been a sense of chaos and urgency in the air. The respite will come through the Taurean influence with an invitation to bring focus back to the natural world around us. Just as leaves fall to the ground in the southern hemisphere and life emerges from the ground in the Springtime of the northern hemisphere, we too can find our way back to reconnect with the tangible beauty of the Earth through this fixed earth sign.
Taurus is a sensory sign, celebrating all that we can feel, touch, taste, see and hear.
Taurus’ energy is slow and steady by choice so as to savour all that it experiences. Taureans have their feet firmly planted on the ground and can have a stabilizing effect on those around them. They can be stubborn, “bull-headed” and unmoveable when they want to be but also very dedicated and loving. They have a determination that is formidable and can stay the course long after those around them have given up.
Those with their Sun in Taurus have an appreciation for art and beauty in all its forms, with a keen ability to spot creative subtleties that others may overlook. Many are artists, foodies, pleasure seekers or supporters of others with innate, creative talents. Bring up the subject of food with a Taurean and they can probably whip out a photo of their latest or most favourite meal that was beyond delicious.
Taureans usually surround themselves with possessions they’ve accumulated over the years which may hold a special memory, have sentimental value, bring them pleasure or are representative of who they are or what they’ve achieved. No matter how many mementos they surround themselves with they can usually tell you where they got it, who gave it to them and why they choose to keep it. They create spaces of comfort, safety and security for themselves where they can shut the world out if they need to. Taureans can feel a little off kilter if their environment is unorganized, messy or chaotic and will do what they can to rectify the situation.
Taurus energy is bull energy which is sturdy, stoic and sure footed. It can seem a little intimidating but behind the wall of composure and dependability is a softer, gentler, more vulnerable side revealed only to those they allow in to their well guarded sanctuary
Taurus is ruled by the aspect of Venus that represents the values we hold for ourselves and expect from others; our possessions of importance and priority; the people who are deemed worthy of our time and effort. This aspect of Venus is also concerned with how we personally measure our self worth in terms of achievement, material gain and dependability.
Whilst the Sun is in Taurus it’s a good time to slow down and find your anchor –whatever or whoever that may be to help reconnect to a more grounded, calmer part of yourself. The opportunity is available to settle back in to where comfort lies and take advantage of any “downtime” to indulge in what brings you pleasure. It might be a good idea to reassess your finances, figure out where you spend your money and consolidate where you can, in an attempt to put yourself into a stronger financial position moving forward.
