MERCURY & JUPITER IN CANCER

We begin this week with Mercury moving out of its sign of rulership, Gemini and into the cardinal water sign of Cancer. Whilst Mercury was in Gemini, the time was ripe to enjoy the company of others and engage in social settings where curious minds could meet in good conversation. Cancer’s influence on the planet of communication will now be to rein it in a little bit for some respite from the noise and chatter of the outside world.

With Mercury in Cancer we will prefer to be in the company of those who know us best where we can feel totally at home in our own skins. Our mindset will take on a more subjective outlook and allow space for our emotional settings and defaults to flavour our opinions and conversations. It will seem easier to articulate what we’re feeling and why.

Mercury being the messenger of the Gods and astrologically, the planet of communication is the perfect harbinger to lead the way for Jupiter to enter Cancer a day later.

It’s been twelve years since Jupiter was in Cancer and it will remain in this sign until July next year. It’s interesting to reflect back to late June 2013 to mid July 2014 to note which themes of growth and expansion were at play during that time.

Jupiter is big energy, pushing against any restrictive elements of containment. Jupiter is expansion, growth and hope. It’s the “luck” of being in the right place at the right time to receive and recognize opportunity and run with it. It’s the awareness that there is always more to know, more to learn and more to understand. It’s our beliefs that expand beyond limiting perceptions and our willingness to be philosophical when faced with life’s lessons that may come to us in the guise of obstacles and hardship.

Jupiter in Cancer can support our need for personal evolution on our own terms. It will provide an opportunity to acknowledge our ancestry, blood lines and family history and recognize the traits and patterns of our ancestors that we recognize in ourselves.  Our immediate and extended family also have influence upon the attitudes and expectations we bring into creating a home of our own and what we need to feel nurtured, safe and secure in that environment. Jupiter in Cancer can help build upon the foundational aspects of our experiences that we deem useful and to recognize what we must leave behind in order to grow and move beyond any inhibiting patterns of our past.

During the first week of this transit, Jupiter might find it hard to gain traction as it meets the Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Aries by square aspect. So, there could be a little confusion or ambiguity around what it is that you’re hoping to achieve and the direction it will take. It can feel like something is holding you back but marking time a little before moving forward can’t hurt as it allows you to take a breath, set your target and ensure your path of choice is the right one, or at least one that feels right. By the 21st your plans will receive a burst of solar energy as the Sun moves into Cancer meeting up with Jupiter to get things moving.

Take note of the areas of your chart ruled by Cancer and any planets that Jupiter may meet by aspect during the next twelve months. This is the area of your life that will feel the need to extend beyond its current position.
