Today we are witness to a major Astrological event in this year’s calendar as Neptune settles into Aries for the first time in 165 years.  We were given a prelude to this event from March to October last year when Neptune first moved into this cardinal fire sign before retrograding back into Pisces for one last time.

These six months in 2025 marked a threshold of imminent change and transition. We were given a glimpse of what this planetary transit could bring with it and a snippet of how it may look and feel. Neptune’s last retrograde period through Pisces signified a time to prepare for a new era. It was an opportunity to tie up loose ends, put to rest anything out of our control and make the necessary arrangements in readiness for the closing of this chapter.

For the past 14 years Neptune has occupied its sign of rulership. Neptune and Pisces speak the same language and are comfortable in each other’s company as they operate under a similar Astrological symbolism.

Neptune in Aries is another story.

Neptune represents imagination and inspiration; sensitivity and compassion;  spirituality and escapism. Neptune also represents the ethereal and the elusive, the dream state and endless possibility. Neptune is the dissolution of boundaries and structure; creative brilliance and artistic genius.

Neptune’s influence can also create a state of confusion through ambiguity and deception. Neptune can blur the lines of reality, allowing misconceptions and deceit to filter through. Neptune can also represent vulnerability, dependency and victimization.

Aries being the first sign of the Zodiac represents initiation, beginnings, the pioneering spirit; self-will and motivation. Ruled by Mars, Aries’ energy is straight forward, straight to the point and directed to always be in forward motion. Aries is confident, impatient, bold, fearless and resourceful. There is no subtlety to Aries, which at times can be affronting or misunderstood.

Neptune in Aries can be a double-edged sword

Aries can be the motivating force that Neptune needs to pluck its brilliant ideas or vast imaginative concepts out of thin air and transition them into a state of implementation and action. Aries has the daring to “have a go”, to be courageous; to break apart obstacles threatening progress and to pave the way into unchartered territory. The bravery and enthusiasm of Aries can be all the encouragement needed to take a Neptunian leap of faith.

Aries can also direct Neptune’s sensitivity and compassion to where it’s needed most by being able to use these qualities productively when assisting those who are in a position of vulnerability or need. Neptune in Aries brings forth the warrior whose strength is unwavering and respected; whose methods are non-violent yet powerful.

On the flip side, whilst Neptune is in Aries we need to be aware of the charlatan whose guise is not what it seems. There can be a tendency to use force to intimidate; take advantage of the vulnerable; try to deceive or confuse the impressionable. Blind devotion can lead to cultism, truth can become elusive, details can be shrouded in inaccuracy and belief systems can be tested.

On a personal level, the part(s) of your chart ruled by Aries will be activated under this transit. If you have a Pisces Ascendant, Neptune is the ruling planet of your chart so will have further influence. Your Natal Chart is very personal and represents a map of your personal evolution through this life. To understand the full extent of what Neptune in Aries means for you personally, I’d recommend having a Natal Chart consultation.

For anyone who is not familiar with their natal chart, tune in to 2SM Sydney next Monday after the 2pm news. In my next Astrology segment, I will give a general overview of how Neptune in Aries may impact each Zodiac sign.

On a collective level, no-one can know for sure what changes will occur during the next decade or so, but it is interesting to see the parallels beginning to emerge in our world today with when Neptune was last in Aries. I won’t try to control this narrative and can only offer information on the tendencies that may play out. We are all observers of what is about to unfold within our communities, countries and on the international stage. We are all active participants in creating a future for the next generations.

Neptune is considered a generational planet because it moves very slowly through the Zodiac. Anyone born over the next 14 years or so years will have their natal Neptune in Aries. What inspires this “generation” of people will be underwritten by this fire sign.

Here’s a look back over history when Neptune was last in Aries from 1861 to 1875. See if you can recognize any similarities between the planetary themes which played out then, to what is emerging now.

Events:

  • The American Civil War commenced in 1861 (a country divided; intent to abolish slavery)

  • United States purchased Alaska from Russia (considered a frozen land; partly motivated by US wanting security and control of this area)

  • Civil Rights Act of 1875 passed in USA (racial discrimination reform)

Literary works:

  • Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (an epic story of sacrifice and compassion, oppression and injustice, social inequality and the revolutionary rise of the people)

  • Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (a whimsical and magical journey into a world of imagination and fantasy)

  • Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea – Jules Verne (a book considered to be ahead of it’s time; a journey into the depths of the ocean - the realm of Neptune)

Art:

  • The emergence of Impressionism (a dream-like style of painting enhancing light, colour and movement; free from harsh lines and definition of form)

  • The Pre-Raphaelite evolution (Many artworks inspired by mythology, mystery, fantasy and the occult)

Spirituality:

  • Founding of Theosophical Society in New York in 1875 (a new spiritual perspective and movement - a synthesis of science, religion and philosophy)

Inventions:

  • Flashlight photography (photography is ruled by Neptune)

  • Rotary printing press

  • Opening of the Suez Canal – considered an engineering feat.

Medicine:

  • Germ theory of disease discovered

  • Introduction of a drug free method of care – Osteopathy

Individually and collectively we are about to embark on a period of endless possibility. We could see breakthroughs in such fields as medicine, the arts, imaging and spirituality. We are on the verge of a new era where oppression will be exposed and no longer tolerated. We will have to fight for our beliefs and demand transparency from those in power and influence. Visionaries will show us what is possible. Heroes will emerge.

Famous people with Neptune in Aries in their charts:

  • Winston Churcill (Prime Minister of the UK during WW2. His inspirational speech “We Shall Fight on the Beaches” is legendary.)

  • Beatrix Potter (Author and Illustrator of the Peter Rabbit series of books with animals and small creatures as the main characters)

  • Helena Rubinstein founded the first international cosmetic company (Neptune rules the aura of beauty and enhancement)

  • Maria Montessori – Her initial education program was developed for children with disabilities (the twelfth house classically ruled by Pisces and therefore associated with Neptune represents confinement, hospitals and institutions)
