URANUS IN GEMINI
7th July @4:46pm Melbourne, 7:46 am London, 6th July @11:46pm San Francisco
This week marks the beginning of a new seven-year cycle. Uranus moves into Gemini for the first time in 84 years. When one of the outer planets changes sign it’s quite significant, because their movement through the zodiac is slow and they will remain in a sign for many years.
For the next month or so we will get the first glimpse of Uranus, as it transitions out of the fixed earth sign of Taurus and into the mutable air sign of Gemini, and what this may look like. The energy, although somewhat erratic, will now have more freedom and movement as if released from a tether than has kept it grounded for some time. In September Uranus will retrograde back and into the final degrees of Taurus until February next year. Once Uranus gains forward momentum it will head back into Gemini at the end of April. Then there will be no stopping its alliance with Gemini.
Uranus is the planet of change, unexpected change. It has a disruptive element to it so anything that has run its course or become outdated will get a real shake up to make way for something new, something different.
At best, over the next seven years, we can look forward to greater access to information; new and revolutionary means of communication; further technological and scientific breakthroughs; advancement in the areas of medical research, sustainability and environment; more efficient and accessible commuter transport systems. This will no doubt be a period of innovation with the potential to move humanity beyond its current parameters.
Uranus can also bring with it a period of restlessness, rebellion and revolution threatening to disrupt existing structures and systems of power. Freedom and independence is high on the Uranus agenda.
Uranus in Gemini will give rise to the voices of the masses to challenge authoritative rule and governance. In many parts of the world, we’re already witnessing mass protests opposing oppression and injustice. These voices will only get louder.
We can only hope that this impetus to bring about drastic change will result in an outcome that is more constructive than destructive.
That last time Uranus entered Gemini was in 1941 when the world was in the midst of World War 2. The sudden attack on Pearl Harbour later that year bought America into the war and on that same day Hong Kong was invaded. Uranus remained in Gemini until 1948 which marked the post war era where so many people had to rebuild their lives within communities, towns, cities and countries trying to do the same. New alliances were formed and the Cold War began. Life was now different and would never be the same again.
For me personally, Uranus entering Gemini was the catalyst that set my ancestry in a totally different direction and the reason I was born in Australia. Shortly after Hong Kong was invaded my father, at seven years old, along with his mother and two sisters were evacuated to Australia whilst his father remained as part of the defense effort. He never saw his father again. Australia was now their home, and they were given no choice but to begin rebuilding their lives in a different part of the world, alone.
We are all going to face some changes in our lives as we enter this new Uranian era. Change can be difficult, especially if we feel we aren’t able to instigate it for ourselves or have some control over when and how it will happen. If you are someone who is open to change you will probably adapt better to what this transit will bring than someone who is resistant to change or reluctant to do so. Uranus tends to bring about change whether we are in co-operation or not.
I’ve detailed below a brief overview of what this transit could mean for each Zodiac Sign and which area of life could be impacted as this transit begins.
Aries “Life is what happens when you’re waiting for life to happen”. Change is going to be happening right under your nose and where you least expect it. Paying attention to the little things will bring about the big changes. Uranus will bring with it a renewed appreciation of the everyday things that so often get taken for granted.
Taurus Your values and what you place value upon will change. You may want more freedom and to be less encumbered by material possessions. There could be some difficult decisions to make because so often our possessions have sentimental attachments. Uranus can bring with it some unexpected highs and lows so this will relate to money matters for you. It will be important try to stabilize your financial position as best you can.
Gemini During this seven-year period you will begin to redefine your identity on your own terms. Getting rid of any outdated patterns or limiting factors (self imposed or otherwise) will make way for the new you. Relationships may fall away if they can’t accommodate the changes you make or evolve along with you.
Cancer All the things that you’ve managed to keep contained, controlled or hidden are now going to find their way to the surface. The filters will start to come off and the skeletons in the closet will start to make some noise. You need to get on the front foot with this to try to navigate your way through or have some control over what the fall out might be.
Leo You’ll get that “aha” moment that will revolutionize your perspective of what’s possible. New doors will open as others slam shut. You could rebel against anything trying to keep you small. You will no longer want to be defined by anyone else’s standards but your own.
Virgo Situations arise highlighting your attitudes and responses to authority. Your professional life could change radically, sending your career off in a completely new direction. If you’re feeling dissatisfied, needing a change or having to challenge someone in a position of authority to make these changes happen, weigh up your options and pick your battles before making any final decisions. The changes you make through this transit could be quite liberating, if handled well.
LibraThis transit will challenge your way of thinking. You could start to question the influences that have shaped your view and perception of the world, so far. Rigid views of the past that may threaten to keep you stuck or small will get a radical shake up, leading to a more open mindset and one that is no longer limited by the past.
Scorpio Sudden and unexpected events will herald in a great transition. This is the time to take action to remove yourself from situations that are no longer tolerable for you. The focus is on becoming self reliant and independent over the next seven years. This doesn’t necessarily have to happen away from people or in isolation but more so about being able to hold your own and no longer putting up with destructive elements in your life.
Sagittarius Time to meet any relationship issues head on. If you choose to bury your head in the sand, be avoidant or ignore any tension, Uranus will create change for you if you’re not prepared to do the work yourself. Unstable relationships can break down. Strong relationships will feel some tension too but might just need some adjustment to avoid getting stuck in a rut.
Capricorn There’s going to be a need for more flexibility at work to allow more room for your obligations outside of work hours. To make this happen you may take on a different position, a new role or even upskill in some way. If you can initiate these changes yourself, the outcome will give you the freedom you’re looking for.
Aquarius This is a time to break free of your usual patterns or preferences by letting infatuation lead the way. You could engage in new creative endeavours, social and recreational activities or even new love interests. Through this period you’ll find yourself quite often saying “huh! That’s different – I wasn’t expecting that”. If you have children, don’t lose sight of what they are doing or going through as they may need extra support. Their actions may seem rebellious so try to look beyond their immediate behaviour for what’s really going on.
Pisces Uranus can threaten to disrupt the stability of home and family relationships. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Your living situation could change unexpectedly by either moving house suddenly or having to accommodate someone else in your current home. It will take a period of adjustment before things start to settle back down again.
