total full moon lunar eclipse in virgo
3rd March @ 3:35am San Francisco, 6:35am, Toronto. 11:35am London, 10:35pm Melbourne
Late this evening Melbourne time we have a Full Moon total, south node, lunar eclipse at 12° Virgo 54’.
A Lunar Eclipse can precede or follow a Solar Eclipse by approximately two weeks with “eclipse season” usually lasting about six weeks, sometimes longer. During a lunar eclipse, the face of the Moon is darkened by the Earth’s shadow as the Earth passes between the Sun and Moon which occupy opposite signs of the Zodiac.
During the time of a total lunar eclipse, the face of the full moon can take on a red shadow, this is known as a Blood Red Moon.
An eclipse is an interruption of light and energy. The effect can feel similar to a regular power outage at home which can have us scrambling for alternate, usually simpler means of power or lighting. As we wait for the reboot, we learn to adjust our means of operating accordingly. It can be aggravating and inconvenient but also an opportunity to re-orient ourselves away from our usual sources of entertainment or distraction. It can remind us that what we come to rely on isn’t always reliable.
This lunar eclipse occurs along the Virgo/Pisces axis with the Moon in Virgo conjunct the South Node, the Sun in Pisces and is ruled by Mercury, currently in retrograde in Pisces.
The impact of a lunar eclipse is more personal than that of a solar eclipse. Mercury in retrograde and in detriment in Pisces, is already inhibited in its usual means of operating. There is no clear channel for information to get through without distortion and communication becomes ambiguous. Through this retrograde period, we are already directed inward, towards contemplation and quiet reflection. This then dictates the theme of this lunar eclipse.
The South Node conjunct the Moon builds upon this theme. The South Node is our connection to the past, our default way of being. It’s the path of least resistance which is familiar and convenient. No growth happens here.
Eclipses are shrouded in destiny and fate. They are considered to be a crisis point for change or a defining moment in time where choices can be made by us or for us.
This lunar eclipse in Virgo is an invitation to release and let go - to lay down the burdens we carry through duty or obligation, knowing we’ve done all we have been able to do and that’s good enough; to silence the self-deprecating stories we keep on repeat in our minds and realise they only have weight if we keep listening. It’s an opportunity to create a new narrative and a new way of going about our daily lives.
The eclipse highlights our daily routines, habits, health and well-being, the need to systemize, organize and to maintain order. It also exposes the entrapment of perfection which can keep us in a loop of disappointment and exhaustion. It de-mystifies idealism as a mental construct to motivate and inspire
We now have an opportunity to let go of the deadwood, tie up loose ends and clear the clutter to make space for something else, for something new to settle and find its place. If we feel lost or disoriented, the eclipse is the gate keeper who summons us through to where direction and purpose await.
